Report: NRL Round 7 vs Eels

Wests Tigers have been defeated 38-22 by Parramatta in Round 7 of the Telstra Premiership.

In an action-packed contest in which scores were tight for the majority of the match, the Eels ultimately came over the top late to secure the victory.

Parramatta posted first points through a Zac Lomax penalty goal, and they grabbed the first try of the match too through Josh Addo-Carr. The winger sped down the left touchline for the first four-pointer of the afternoon in the 14th minute.

Terrell May went on to crash over to the left of the posts for his first Wests Tigers try, as Api Koroisau sent the front-rower straight through the Eels line.

The home side went back-to-back just five minutes later, as Jahream Bula backed up Brent Naden after a left-hand shift. The centre produced a slick offload to the Fijian international to make it a 10-6 Wests Tigers lead after 27 minutes.

Isaiah Iongi’s effort in the corner made it two tries apiece, with scores locked up at 10-10 at half-time.

Kelma Tuilagi and Sam Tuivaiti went on to score in quick succession after half-time to bring the Eels out to a 22-10 lead.

Addo-Carr then raced down the sideline and passed on the inside for Iongi to grab the Eels’ third second-half try in just seven minutes.

A 53rd minute scuffle saw both Sunia Turuva and Luca Moretti sin-binned, with Iongi following the pair to the bin not long after due to a professional foul.

At 26-10, Wests Tigers needed to mount a comeback quickly, with Alex Seyfarth obliging when he dived on a Jarome Luai grubber kick to score.

Luai was the provider once again, as Luke Laulilii pounced on another kick to bring Wests Tigers within four points.

Late tries to Bailey Simonsson and Addo-Carr though, ultimately ensured the Eels went home with the two competition points.

Eels 38 (Addo-Carr 2, Iongi 2, Tuilagi, Tuivaiti, Simonsson tries; Russell 3/6 goals, Moses 1/1 goal, Smith 1/1 goal) defeated Wests Tigers 22 (May, Bula, Seyfarth, Laulilii tries; Doueihi 3/4 goals) at CommBank Stadium.
