Report: Jersey Flegg Round 7 vs Eels

The Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg Cup side have fallen to a 34-26 defeat to the Eels in Round 7 at Lidcombe Oval.

The home team led 18-14 at half-time, however, Parramatta ultimately proved too strong in the second period and came away with the two competition points.

Wests Tigers posted the first try in just the second minute through Will Craig, as Cameron Kanaan and Max Taotua combined to send the flying winger over in the right corner.

The visitors replied shortly after through Tuvaka Palu, and a 17th-minute four-pointer to Mohamed Alameddine put the Eels ahead.

Matthew Hunter then grabbed a third try for Parramatta as the five-eighth sliced his way through the line and planted the ball down. He converted his own try to make it 14-6 after 23 minutes.

Kanaan went on to further his impressive performance for Wests Tigers though, as the speedy fullback raced through to score directly from a scrum.

The home side did enter half-time ahead on the scoreboard, as interchange forward Lenny Plati crashed over to the right of the uprights to help Wests Tigers to an 18-14 lead at the break.

Alameddine managed to collect a second try in the 42nd minute, and two quick-fire scores through Ieti Samuelu reestablished a strong Eels lead early in the second period.

Wests Tigers five-eighth Iverson Matai then set up Max Taotua to ensure they remained in the contest at 30-22, before Bradley Avery scored in the corner to put Parramatta further ahead.

Craig did go on to bag a second try, with Max Liles and Lachlan Broederlow setting up the Wests junior for the final points of the afternoon.

Eels 34 (Alameddine 2, Samuelu 2, Palu, Hunter, Avery tries; Hunter 3/6 goals, Lynn 0/1 goals) defeated Wests Tigers 26 (Craig 2, Kanaan, Plati, Ma. Taotua tries; Craig 3/5 goals) at Lidcombe Oval.
