North Sydney led 24-4 with 25 minutes remaining before a stunning four-try haul to hooker Tristan Hope led the home team to victory at Lidcombe Oval.
Solomona Faataape posted first points when he sliced through on the right side, however, tries to Ben Talty and Joe Chan meant the Bears led 12-4 at half-time.
Sean Vaivelata crashed over under the posts to extend the North Sydney lead after 42 minutes and Matt Stimson’s four-pointer shortly after meant things were looking ugly for Wests.
However, Tristan Hope dived over from dummy half in the 56th minute to ensure the Magpies stayed in the contest.
Josh Feledy then pounced on a neat grubber kick from Max Liles, before Hope took control of the match.
His extravagant dummy fooled the Bears time and time again, as he scored two tries in quick succession to give the Magpies a two-point lead with five minutes to go.
The 27-year-old recent NRL debutant then went down a short side and scored a fourth try in the 77th minute to secure a remarkable victory for Wests in Round 3.
Magpies 32 (Hope 4, Faataape, Feledy tries; Lobb 4/6 goals) defeated Bears 24 (Talty, Chan, Vaivelata, Stimson tries; Wilson 4/4 goals) at Lidcombe Oval.
