Lower Grade Wrap-Up: August 10

Wrap-up of Saturday afternoon's Wests Tigers lower-grade fixtures.

Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership

Wests Tigers fell to a heartbreaking defeat in the NSW Women’s Premiership, with the Central Coast Roosters kicking a match-winning field goal right on full-time at Industree Group Stadium, Gosford.

The home side took an early lead, scoring two tries in the opening half-hour of the contest, however Patricia Raikadroka scored just before the break to ensure her team remained within touching distance.

Wests Tigers continued to fight hard in the second stanza, and went on to score two tries to one in that period, but halfback Melanie Watherston’s 69th minute one-pointer meant the Tricolours emerged victorious.

CC Roosters 15 (Ross, Watherston, Naividi tries, Watherston 1/3 goals, Watherston field goal) defeated Wests Tigers 14 (Raikadroka, Bott, Nielsen tries, Barnett 1/3 goals)

Jersey Flegg Cup - U/21s

Wests Tigers travelled to Newcastle to take on a top-four Knights side in Round 23 and couldn’t come away with the chocolates, despite holding a narrow half-time lead.

After Wests Tigers shot out to a quick lead through Brandon Tumeth and Max Taotua, the home team hit back with three unanswered tries of their own.

Finnley Neilsen went on to score his first four-pointer of the season after an injury-riddled campaign, however Knights fullback Fletcher Hunt scored his second of the afternoon to secure victory for Newcastle.

Knights 24 (Hunt 2, Hilliar, Sutton tries, Sutton 4/4 goals) defeated Wests Tigers 14 (Tumeth, Taotua, Neilsen tries, Liles 1/3 goals)
