Match Report: NSW Cup Round 20 vs Dragons

Western Suburbs Magpies have fallen to a heavy defeat to the Dragons in the Knock On Effect NSW Cup, succumbing to a 52-16 loss at Collegians Sporting Complex, Wollongong.

After trailing 24-10 at half-time, the Magpies were unable to mount a fightback as St. George Illawarra proved too strong on Sunday afternoon.

The home side scored two quick-fire tries to open the contest, however Wests centre Josh Feledy used his strength and power to push through numerous Dragons defenders and post first points for the Magpies.

The Dragons’ third four-pointer of the match was followed by another piece of magic from Feledy, as he grubbered through the line for Solomon Alaimalo to touch down.

From there though, the match was nearly all in favour of the Red V, as Sione Finau and Savelio Tamale crossed to give them a 24-10 lead at the break.

Dylan Egan scored a simple try on the right edge to extend the Dragons lead early in the second half and a spilt bomb from Solo Saukuru landed directly in the arms of Fa’amanu Brown who strolled over after 55 minutes.

Finau’s double was followed by Jayden Sullivan’s third try of the season at NSW Cup level, with the halfback dummying his way through the line to score under the posts.

Finau collected his third and fourth tries late in the game to conclude the afternoon’s scoring, with the Dragons emerging victorious, 52-16.
