On this week’s episode of Behind the Roar we chat to NRLW Co-captains Botille Vette-Welsh and Kezie Apps ahead of the 2024 Telstra Women’s Premiership.
This episode of Behind The Roar will drop at 4pm on Wednesday and is available on Spotify, Apple and YouTube.
Botille made a welcome return from a long injury layoff to play a very big part in Wests Tigers very first NRLW season, having previously played NRLW with the Roosters, Dragons and Eels. A highly talented fullback, Bo has also represented NSW, Australia and the Māori All Stars.
One of the most recognisable faces in women’s rugby league, Kezie has played more Origin games for NSW than any other player, she has represented Australia on 15 occasions, and like Botille, is also a big part of Wests Tigers Community team.
We talk about the upcoming campaign and the improvements that have been made as the team prepares for its second season in the NRLW.
We discuss the rapid rise in the women’s game which is seeing record attendance and viewing figures, and the challenges of juggling work, footy and for some, motherhood.
These two ladies, while supreme athletes, are also quite a laugh. For that reason, there’s a lot in this episode of BTR which has precious little to do with footy, and more to do with personality.
