Match Report: Jersey Flegg Cup Round 18 vs Sharks

Wests Tigers have succumbed to a 20-16 defeat to the Sharks in Round 18 of the Jersey Flegg Cup at Henson Park.

Adrian Sandy grabbed the first points of the afternoon, with the Sharks fullback crossing after just four minutes.

Herman Tofaeono crashed over to put Wests Tigers on the board, after the big front-rower produced a trademark powerful carry off a quick play-the-ball to get across the line.

Taj Ford’s try made it 10-6 to the Sharks at half-time but Wests Tigers raced out of the blocks in the second stanza to grab the lead for the first time in the match.

Noah Johannssen’s determined charge to the line proved too much to handle for the Cronulla defenders, with Tino Tavana’s conversion putting Wests Tigers ahead by two points.

The Sharks went on to go back-to-back though, with John-Paul Donevski and Max McCarthy reestablishing the black, white and blue lead.

A desperate effort from Navren Willett, in which he used every inch of his tall frame to plant the ball down, proved too little, too late, as the Sharks emerged victorious, 20-16.
