Match Report: Jersey Flegg Cup Round 16 vs Bulldogs

Wests Tigers have fallen to a 26-12 defeat to the Bulldogs in Round 16 of the Jersey Flegg Cup at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

A strong first-half from the visitors was too much for the high-flying Wests Tigers to overcome, with Canterbury emerging with a comfortable victory.

After Wests Tigers back-rower Archie Duncombe was sin-binned for a hip drop, Bulldogs prop Larry Muagututia barged over from dummy half to grab the first points of the day in the ensuing set.

Kobie Wilson continued his outstanding Jersey Flegg season with Wests Tigers’ opening four-pointer, however a long-range charge-down try from Sosaia Kaufusi put Canterbury back in front.

On the stroke of half-time, Danny Gabrael capitalised off a wicked bounce of the ball to pounce for the Bulldogs’ third and make it a 16-6 scoreline at the break.

A tightly contested second half was broken open by a slick try from the visitors, with their expansive play finished off by fullback Blake Forder.

Winger Jordi Mazzone crossed late for the Bulldogs, before Duncombe burst through a hole to collect his first score at U/21’s level.

Tino Tavana’s conversion made it a 26-12 scoreline at full-time in this Round 16 Jersey Flegg Cup fixture.
