Pathways Preview: Under 17s semi-finals

Our Under 17s would love your support at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday as they play for a place in the Harold Matthews and Lisa Fiaola Cup Grand Finals.

First up its Wests Magpies in action against Cronulla Sutherland Sharks in the semi-finals of the Harold Matthews Cup.

The Magpies have gone through the regular season without a loss, finishing second on for and against behind the Canterbury Bulldogs, who have also won seven from eight plus had a draw with Parramatta Eels.

Stephen Isdale’s boys are yet to face the fourth-placed Sharks this season but will go into the game as favourites.

The winner will face the victor of the other semi-final between Bulldogs or the sixth-placed Warriors, in the Grand Final.

Immediately following the Harold Matthews semi-final at Leichhardt will be the semi-final of the Lisa Fiaola Cup between Wests Tigers and Illawarra Steelers.

Our girls, who finished 5th on the ladder, had a 24-22 win over the Central Coast Roosters at Leichhardt last weekend.

The Steelers defeated the Sharks 38-14 in the final round of the regular season to finish second on the ladder and enjoyed a weekend off in week one of the finals.

Wests Tigers lost just twice this season - to the Sydney Roosters and the Bulldogs - while the Steelers one and only loss was to the third-placed Eels in Round 4 (L 32-16).

The winner will face either the Bulldogs or Knights – who play later in the day at Leichhardt Oval – in the Grand Final.
