This week on Behind The Roar we chat to Wests Tigers Player #1, Joel Caine, ahead of the team’s first home game of the season.
BTR is available on Apple, Spotify and YouTube.
Caine played 97 NRL games across six seasons including 75 games for Wests Tigers where he scored 26 tries over three and half seasons.
Post football he’s established a successful career in the media and has been the face of a large betting company for many years.
Tigers official podcast is proudly sponsored by Pro Wrestling Australia.
Caine, aka ‘sugar’, was there from day one, playing in Wests Tigers very first game against Brisbane Broncos at Campbelltown in Round 1, 2000. In fact, he played in every game in the club’s inaugural season.
Life after footy has been busy for Joel, raising four kids and juggling multiple jobs in the media.
It’s an interesting chat about a lot more than football; about how being in the right place at the right time - even if your identity is mistaken - can shape your destiny.
Joel talks fondly of his time at the Wests Tigers, admitting it was a drop in form that would ultimately see him head to the UK.
He reflects on that very first season, the many characters in the team, about how their season went cold after a loss in the snow, and a whole lot more.
