BTR Pre-season Podcast: Josh Feledy

In our final episode of Behind The Roar’s pre-season series we chat with rising star and former development player, Josh Feledy.

Over the summer Wests Tigers official podcast shined a light on some of the club’s younger players, the majority of whom are yet to make their NRL debut.

Episode 41 of BTR is available on Apple, Spotify and YouTube.

Josh talks about his hopes and dreams for 2024, his pre-season goals and achievements, and how important it was to him making his NRL debut at the end of last season.  He also comments on a different vibe in the group compared to last season, saying his new coach has got every player on the same page.

At 19 years of age, and sporting the team’s most pronounced mullet, Feledy just loves playing footy for a living.

He got his first taste of NRL action in the final round last season against the Sea Eagles and is craving more.

“That was probably the best day of my life so far,” he said.

“The feeling is so amazing, it’s addictive, it’s crazy.

After getting a taste of it NRL last year it’s made me even hungrier as a player.

A powerful centre, and one of the shorter players in the team, Feledy explains how dropping a few kilos over summer has made a sizeable difference.

“I was way too heavy last season at 96kg and so I’ve dropped about six kilos,” he said.

“At about 90kg now I feel a lot fitter, much quicker.

“I just couldn’t function at that heavier weight, and now that I’m lighter my fitness has improved and I have really lost any strength.”

Built in a similar mould to Justin Olam, Feledy says he’s learning a lot off his new teammate.

“It’s awesome having Juzzy around, he’s just a freak,” said Feledy.

“For us younger players, especially me as a centre, it’s just so good to be able to learn off someone like him.”
