Jakiya Whitfeld’s scrambling cover defence set the tone early, though her side couldn’t stop Titans’ captain Georgia Hale through the middle as she pirouetted her way over the line in the 10th minute.
Using the full width of the field, Rebecca Pollard scored her first NRLW try through a pearler of a long-ball from Christian Pio after Najvada George’s late offload caught the hosts short on the left edge.
Both sides exchanged promising attacking raids on their opposition’s line, but the final piece couldn’t be executed as desperate Titans’ goal line defence on Jessica Kennedy kept the visitors just 6-4 behind at the break.
Miscommunication on the last tackle from Wests Tigers extended the hosts’ lead through Dannii Perese nine minutes into the second half.
Gold Coast would be forced to wait until three minutes before full time to secure a home victory as Evania Pelite burst onto an inside ball to score.
Brett Kimmorley’s patched up side withstood enormous pressure from the Titans all game, defending multiple repeat sets on their own line, but were unable to swing the momentum and turn effort into points.
Wests Tigers will face Brisbane Broncos in a double-header at McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle in round eight.
