Match Report: NRL Round 27 vs Sea Eagles

Wests Tigers have ended their 2023 NRL season with a 54-12 defeat to the Manly Sea Eagles at 4 Pines Park.

The Sea Eagles got away to a perfect start as Haumole Olakau’atu busted through the line in the opening set of the match.

The second-rower found Tolutau Koula, who turned on the afterburners to score the first try of the evening.

Brad Parker looked certain to double the Sea Eagles’ lead minutes later but was unable to cleanly collect a bouncing kick from Daly Cherry-Evans.

Instead, Api Koroisau levelled the scores with a sweet display of footwork that led to the skipper’s sixth try of the season.

Tolutau Koula completed his double to regain the lead for his side, before two tries in quick succession from Jason Saab allowed Manly to extend their advantage to fourteen points.

A try to Ethan Bullemor on the stroke of halftime then pushed the scoreline to 26-6.

Haumole Olakau’atu started the second forty with a try that opened the floodgates for the potent Manly attack.

The Sea Eagles ran in four tries in eight minutes, including Gordon Chan Kum Tong’s maiden four-pointer and a try for Jake Trbojevic in his 200th NRL game.

Asu Kepaoa stemmed the flow of points with an acrobatic put-down in the right corner for the final Wests Tigers try of the season.
