Podcast: BTR Episode 27 with Tim Moltzen

This week’s guest on Behind The Roar is former Wests Tigers utility back Tim Moltzen.

Episode 27 will be available from 4pm Thursday on Apple, Spotify and YouTube.

Moltzen played 90 NRL games across six seasons at the club before his career was cruelly cut short by a chronic knee injury.

He scored 39 tries for WT in those six seasons between 2008 and 2013 but knew his body was just not up to it when he tried to go again with Manly Sea Eagles in 2016.

He talks fondly of his time at Wests Tigers, making his NRL debut alongside the likes of Benji Marshall, Robbie Farah, Chris Heighington, John Morris, Chris Lawrence, Dene Halatau, Beau Ryan, Brett Hodgson, and big Keith Galloway.

We chat about a range of topics including the new coaching set-up at the club next season, the problems he faced when injury forced him out of the game as a 26-year-old, the talents of his former housemate, Benji – both on and off the field, and the future opportunities for Wests Tigers young squad in the coming years.

Moltzen, who these days is carving a successful career in real estate, also talks about his lack of a ‘plan B’ when forced to call it quits.

And about the day his kneecap cracked while training at Concord, and the ‘heartbreak’ that followed.

Sometimes you don’t appreciate what you’ve got until it’s taken away.

On a lighter note, we ask Tim to invite three former teammates to a BBQ at Brooksy’s! Here’s a clue as to who made the list…the first name of all three guests starts with the letter ‘b’?

All that and more on this week's episode of Behind The Roar.
