Match Preview: NRLW Round 1 vs Eels

Wests Tigers will make their debut in the NRLW competition on Sunday afternoon, taking on last season’s runner-up Parramatta Eels at CommBank Stadium.

Brett Kimmorely’s 22-player squad features 13 players who played in the 2022 Harvey Norman NSW Premiership wining team, with six players also lining up against their former side.

The team will be led by co-captains, second row Kezie Apps and fullback Botille Vette-Welsh.

Vette-Welsh will make her return to the top-flight against her former NRLW club after spending the past 18 months out of the game following an ACL injury in 2021.

The pair’s experience in the topflight will be crucial, with seven members of the squad making their NRLW debuts.

Campbelltown juniors Emily and Sophie Curtain will become the first set of twins to play in the NRLW.

They are among 18 members of the 22-player extended squad who have played in Wests Tigers pathways teams.

For Parramatta it is a new look squad with five debutantes and only a handful of players remain from last season’s grand final team.
