Podcast: BTR Episode 14 with Luke Brooks

On episode 14 of Behind The Roar we chat with Luke Brooks, following a night to remember against the Cowboys last weekend.

Behind The Roar is available on Apple, Spotify and YouTube.

Brooks celebrated his 200th NRL game in style, guiding his team to a record breaking 66-18 victory over North Queensland Cowboys at a heaving Leichhardt Oval.

The scoreboard will show Brooks scored just two of his side's 66 points, a simple conversion in the 71st minute. In truth, his fingerprints were all over the match and it was a performance to savour.

It’s an inciteful chat about his past, his present and his future.

We cover plenty of topics including the team’s recent winning form, his better understanding of how best to work with Api, his dreams as a kid watching his beloved Wests Tigers, what needs to be done to beat the Raiders next weekend, as well as his love of country music, cooking, and being a dad.

Luke also tells us what it meant to have such a big win over the Cowboys in his 200th NRL game.

"All I wanted was a win,” he says.

It wasn’t for me or my 200th game, it was just about our season as a team.

Luke Brooks

With family and friends crammed into the Keith Barnes Stand at Leichhardt Oval, he explains how it affected him.

“I didn’t want to look up there because I was getting quite emotional.”

And in a week that saw the passing of music icon Tina Turner, Brooks opens up about his greatest goal in rugby league.

My dream is to one day do a lap of honour after winning a Grand Final to the sound of ‘simply the best'
