Weekend Review: April 15

It was a tough weekend for Wests Tigers’ lower grades, with the three teams in action all suffering defeats.

Jersey Flegg Cup (U/21s)

Wests Tigers’ Jersey Flegg Cup side went down in Round 7 to a Dragons team which started well and ran away with the result in the second half.

Front-rower, Jackson Owen scored his third try of the season to open the home team’s scoring, with the big prop proving a real handful in 2023.

NRL development player Josh Feledy scored a double in promising signs for the 18-year-old centre, however it wasn’t enough to score a win against a potent St. George Illawarra outfit.

Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership

Wests Tigers’ NSW Women’s Premiership season came to an end on Saturday after suffering a 28-8 defeat to Illawarra in Round 11.

Down by 24 points at the break, the home team produced an admirable second half effort to stem the flow of points against a star-studded Steelers side.

Rugby convert, Pauline Piliae-Rasabale got her name on the scoresheet for Wests Tigers, as did fullback Rebecca Pollard.

With the season now over for Wests Tigers, several players will get a chance to recuperate and re-set for the NRLW preseason which starts next month.

UNE SG Ball Cup (U/19s) - Western Suburbs

The Magpies were bundled out of the SG Ball finals series on Saturday, falling 18-10 to Parramatta in a gripping contest at Campbelltown.

Fullback Heath Mason was outstanding in the defeat, scoring a double as well as producing a quality defensive performance.

Jordan Miller came off the interchange bench and the front rower was another of the Magpies’ best performers.

A double to Te Hurinui Twidle and a late try to Matt Arthur led the Eels to a narrow victory.
