Weekend Review: Round 4

A quick look back at Round 4 results from Wests Tigers pathways teams.

Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership

This match (Monday) will be streamed live on NSWRL TV (via Facebook).

Harvey Norman Tarsha Gale Cup (U/19s)

A slick Raiders side proved too strong for Wests Tigers’ Tarsha Gale Cup team on Saturday, with speedy Canberra centre Lara Cosgrove crossing for a hat-trick on the day.

After a gritty first half, the Tigers trailed by 10 points at the break, before Canberra ran away with the result in the second stanza.

Fullback Tiana-Lee Thorne scored her second try of the Tarsha Gale Cup season and has consistently been one of Wests Tigers’ best.

UNE SG Ball Cup (U/19s) - Western Suburbs

Wests’ SG Ball outfit succumbed to its first defeat of the new season on Saturday afternoon, unable to overcome the ladder-leading Raiders in Canberra.

A dominant second half from the men in green saw them post four tries, with key performers Tallyn Da Silva and Jordan Miller both getting on the scoresheet for the Magpies in Round 4.

For hooker Da Silva, it is his third try in three games in 2023.

UNE SG Ball Cup (U/19s) - Balmain

Balmain’s SG Ball Cup team has scored its second victory on the trot.

An outstanding performance from skipper Josh Feledy willed the Tigers home, with the damaging centre scoring one try and producing the match-winning flick pass for his winger, William Malloy.

Balmain’s forward pack was again strong, with co-captain Tony Sukkar and prop Elijah Mataale consistently proving hard to handle.

UNE Harold Matthews Cup (U/17s) - Western Suburbs

Western Suburbs’ Harold Matthews Cup side was defeated for the first time in 2023, falling to a powerful and skilful Raiders outfit on Saturday morning.

In a tight start to the contest, the two teams traded four-pointers, however the match eventually swung in the favour of the home side, which went on to score four unanswered tries.

Ali Karnib scored once again, in what was his sicth try of the Harold Matthews Cup season.

SLE Laurie Daley Cup (U/18s) - Macarthur Wests

Macarthur Wests Tigers’ Laurie Daley Cup team produced 11 straight tries to score a 54-4 win over Monaro Colts.

Winger Jone Rorocolo crossed for a hat-trick, while fellow backs Daniel Waqa, Seth To’o and Noah McKenzie all secured doubles.

The result marks consecutive wins for Macarthur Wests, after their big victory over Riverina in Round 3.

SLE Andrew Johns Cup (U/16s) - Macarthur Wests

In one of the more remarkable games you’ll see, Macarthur Wests’ Andrew Johns Cup side came back from a 20-0 deficit, to win 24-20.

The win maintains the group’s undefeated start to the season, with one regular season game remaining before finals.

With just one minute left, Monaro manufactured an overlap and seemed destined to tie the game, before a last-ditch, try-saving tackle from winger James Bengura secured maximum competition points for the Tigers.
