Finals bound in Jersey Flegg

Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg Cup side produced its biggest win of the season to date, upsetting the first-placed Roosters to secure a well-deserved place in the finals.

Coach Scott Kenna says the team should be very proud of its professional approach to every game this season, and the win against the Roosters showed patience and composure.

“After another slow start and letting in ten points, we fought hard to be in front before allowing a try in before half time,” said Kenna.

We challenged the playing group at half time to fix our defence and we did."

“The Roosters challenged our try line for the majority of the second half, but credit to the playing group, they kept turning up in defence and turned them away.

“Off the bench, Cayne Nicholas and Sione Fainu made a strong impact and created some momentum when they came into the game.

"James Valavatu played at five eighth and hooker and was very impressive,  especially in defence, and Christian Ma'anaima's second spell was tremendous for the second week in a row."

Kenna says Justin Matamua put in another solid performance after making his NRL debut earlier in this year.

“Justin controlled our middle in attack and Kade Kill steered the team around the field showing great football IQ.

“It’s great to have booked a place in the finals, and we know there is a lot of hard work ahead of us.”
