Match Report: U/16s Cubs vs Greater Northern Tigers

Wests Tigers U/16’s Cubs have capped their development tour to Tamworth with a resounding 36-8 victory over the Greater Northern Tigers at Scully Park.

The Cubs got away to a fast start with a pair of silky passing shifts leading to a try on each edge.

The first try went to left winger Riley Pitman, while the second was completed by Lee Howlett in the right corner.

Northern Tigers dug in and put up a solid fight for the remainder of the first half, which ended with the Cubs leading by sixteen points.

The Cubs continued their momentum in the second forty, running in three tries and conceding just one.

Speaking after the match, Cubs U/16s coach Chris Crotty said he was highly impressed with the quality of the match.

The win was the perfect way to wrap up our 3-day tour of Tamworth and it was great to see our Balmain Tigers and Western Suburbs Magpies juniors come together to play as one."

Crotty expressed his pride in the way each of the Cubs performed, but singled out the contributions of Luke Laulilii, Riley Oitmann, Aaron Keppie and Jordan Bunt.

He said that credit must also be given to Joseph Raad and Nate Gallagher, who had strong performances filling in for the opposition

“I was really pleased with the performance from both sides. It was a good, solid hit out."
