Wests Tigers will recognise the achievements of our past and present Indigenous players as the club celebrates its Indigenous Round.
The NRL does a great job each season in celebrating Indigenous Round across the competition as a whole, like it did in Round 12.
Saturday's match against Parramatta provides our club with another opportunity to acknowledge our team's connection to local Indigenous communities and to recognise the contribution that First Nations People of Australia have made to the foundation of the Wests Tigers.
Wests Tigers have become a leading destination for Indigenous talent in recent seasons, with the likes of Daine Laurie, James Roberts, Tyrone Peachey and Brent Naden all joining the club over the past two years.
These men have contributed to several Wests Tigers’ community programs during their time at the club, with Laurie and Roberts recently attending the NRL’s Indigenous Youth Summit in May.
To celebrate these achievements, Wests Tigers will take to the field in a jersey designed by artist Tyler Smith that depicts the club’s past and future alongside the totems of our current Indigenous players.
A Welcome to Country will be given by a Gadigal elder and both captains will exchange cultural gifts before tossing a special commemorative coin.
Our charity partner for the match will be KARI, who work to provide quality services to Aboriginal communities in the areas of child protection and community support.
