Wests Tigers set for Tarsha Gale Cup finals

Wests Tigers are set for their biggest game of the season when they face the St George Dragons in the Tarsha Gale Cup elimination final on Saturday.

With five wins and three losses to their name, the U/19’s women’s team finished fourth on the ladder and will now play the fifth-placed Dragons for a place in the semi-finals.

Wests Tigers will be looking to make it two wins from two attempts against the Dragons in 2021 after recording a 20-12 victory at Leichhardt Oval in Round 4.

The match kicks-off at 11:00am this Saturday at HE Laybutt Field.

Wests Tigers Tarsha Gale Cup coach David Fauonuku is looking forward to elimination final and said it’s a just reward for players who have worked hard for each other all year.

“We’re more than capable of winning it all but we’ve got to get through this week first and then we’ll go from there,” Fauonuku said.

“The girls have worked hard through the pre-season and all year and it all boils down to this. This is a reward for a good year.”

Despite finishing the regular season with a loss against the Indigenous Academy, Fauonuku is confident the squad can have an immediate response this week.

“It’s not the ideal lead up, coming off the back of a loss but we know semi-finals is a whole new tournament — it all starts again now,” Fauonuku said.

“This is a squad I’ve been involved in since they were just 15 or 16 years old — they’re a tight squad and I know.”
