Magpies flex attacking muscle to down Eels

Western Suburbs Magpies have recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a 34-28 win over the Parramatta Eels today in their Knock-On Effect NSW Cup clash at Stadium Australia.

Two late Parramatta tries closed the gap to a converted try to set up a thrilling finish — and the Eels had an attacking raid on the siren — but the Magpies held strong to secure the two competition points.

Despite losing Russell Packer to a knee injury early in the contest, it was another good performance from Ben Gardiner's side as they ran in seven tries to five.

Experienced centre Joey Leilua again delivered a strong performance on the left edge — scoring a try and setting up two others — while Jock Madden and Kiah Cooper also bagged doubles.

Jake Simpkin continued his try-scoring streak to start the season — having scored in all four matches to date — while Alex Seyfarth was also strong in the middle.

The win lifts the Magpies to third on the ladder following four rounds.
