Wests Tigers are pleased to announce the launch of our Women's ROAR Academy — a program that will strengthen the pathways for women’s rugby league.
The ROAR Academy is an extensive program that aims to support women’s players from the U/13’s through to U/17's.
The program — which is the first of its kind amongst NRL clubs — will open up opportunities for women’s players to progress from the junior grades to the senior competitions.
The ROAR Academy will run a number of junior programs, including a talent identification day and a six-week program in the lead to the July school holidays with high-level training sessions to prepare them for future elite competitions.
The ‘ROAR’ acronym reflects four values developed in our women’s program at Wests Tigers — respect, openness, attitude and resilience.
Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership Coach Neil Stanley is excited to be involved in the launch of the Academy.
“It gives the girls a bit of an intro into what we do here and it provides a pathway into our junior representative sides,” Stanley said.
“I think it’s a vital program to have because it gives a pathway for the girls coming through. It’s a pivotal time in women’s rugby league.”
Elite Player Development and Pathways Manager Tyrone Collins believes the Academy will strengthen the Club’s bid for an NRLW team.
“It’s pretty unique. We’ll be the only NRL team to have a fully supported program from U/13’s to open age,” Collins said.
“This will mean, for the NRLW licence we’ve applied for, it can be made up of mainly locals coming through the production line. It’s really important and an exciting time for the club.”
