Wests Tigers players, staff and corporate partners have joined together to support the ongoing relief efforts in Lebanon after the tragic explosion in Beirut earlier this month.
Hundreds lost their lives in the explosion on August 4 while thousands suffered injuries. Over 300,000 people have been displaced as a result of the incident while hospitals are either badly damaged or overwhelmed with patients needing assistance — all against the backdrop of a country struggling with a severe economic crisis and the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic.
This weekend, Wests Tigers have launched its support for the Beirut Appeal to help raise much-needed funds and awareness for the situation in Lebanon.
Lebanon internationals Adam Doueihi and Alex Twal have been the driving force behind the initiative that will see players, staff, corporate partners and fans come together to show their support for those affected in Beirut.
"Watching what unfolded in Lebanon last week was hard to comprehend," Doueihi said. "As a proud Lebanese player, it made me realise how lucky I am to play the sport I love — whole-heartedly representing my Lebanese heritage."
"For the club, sponsors and community to be able to help in bringing in much-needed funds makes me proud to be part of the Wests Tigers family," said Twal.
Wests Tigers support Beirut Appeal
The Beirut Appeal is proudly supported by several Wests Tigers corporate partners who have a rich connection to Lebanon and passion for helping those affected.
Deemah Stone will be the designated Match Day Partner for Sunday's game with a strong financial contribution — donating their entire Match Day Partnership investment to kick off fundraising endeavours — while KwikFlo will make a $50 donation to Red Cross for every point Wests Tigers scores against the Bulldogs.
Kwikflo will also give away a $200 plumbing voucher to someone at the game.
Wests Tigers encourage all Members, fans and partners to support those affected through the Red Cross relief efforts. Donations made to the Red Cross organisation will assist with search-and-rescue efforts, help people evacuate, provide urgent medical care, psychological support and temporary shelter, food and basic needs.
