Man of the Match: Round 1

Wests Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall has been named Man of the Match following a powerful performance in Round 1 — helping lead his side to a 24-14 victory over the Dragons.

Marshall's Man of the Match performance as captain caps off a brilliant pre-season and kick start to the season for the veteran Kiwi playmaker.

After Luke Brooks was ruled out with injury prior to the match, Marshall used his experience and playmaking skills to help guide his side home.

It was Marshall’s magic that lead to two of the four tries scored from Wests Tigers, with perfectly placed kicks for David Nofoaluma and Luciano Leilua to score.

The 35-year-old ended the game with 81 metres from his 12 runs, one linebreak, two try assists and two tackle breaks while also adding an offload, 350 kick metres and three forced dropouts in the win. In the full 80 minutes, Marshall scored 12 of his side's 24 points in his side's victory and gained 64 fantasy points.

Marshall will play game number 243 for Wests Tigers and 310 for his career this Sunday when his side take on the Newcastle Knights at Leichhardt Oval.
