Maguire looking forward to Leichhardt blockbuster

Wests Tigers Head Coach Michael Maguire says his team aren't losing focus on the job at hand as they prepare for a must-win clash against the Cronulla Sharks this Sunday.

The Round 25 clash at Leichhardt Oval was officially announced as a sell-out just moments after full-time of Wests Tigers big win over the Dragons, with Maguire saying the side were excited for what's shaping as a big weekend ahead.

"It's a game that decides where our fate will lie so I'm looking forward to it," Maguire said post-match. "All we can control is what we're doing on field."

"The boys remain very focused around that which is good.

“Our game with the ball tonight wasn’t where we wanted it to be — if you looked at us last week, we completed high and pushed passes we wouldn't normally push."

Despite the side still having a number of key playmakers out due to injuries, Maguire said he was confident with his side's flexibility in attack with Benji Marshall and Josh Reynolds both delivering dynamic performances in the win.

“That’s what the game demands now — everyone needs to be at their best and no doubt the opposition will be doing the same this week," he said.

"We’ll make a plan of how we want to play and have the boys follow that through.

“It’s the plan that we’ve had the past couple of weeks and Josh is starting to get match fit. Josh can be there for us as well, but we’ll look into that this week and see what’s best for the team.

“For myself it’s all about what we need to do this week," he added. "My experience gives me the opportunity to show my players what needs to happen at this moment in time.

"At the end of the day, we started back in November to put ourselves in this position.

“It’s about staying focused on what we can do — if you look further forward, you end up getting beat.

"We need to make sure they’re turning up every day, and are prepared to be at our best."
