Kelly Egan to depart Wests Tigers

Wests Tigers have today confirmed that General Manager – Football Kelly Egan will depart the club in the coming weeks.

Since joining Wests Tigers at the end of the 2016 season, Egan has played a vital role in the rebuild of the club’s playing roster, while also strengthening a number of the club’s junior development programs.

After continued involvement in a variety of roles and clubs over the past 27 years, Egan will be relocating to Brisbane in a role outside of Rugby League.

He will depart the club and rugby league at the end of June with the full support of everyone at Wests Tigers and will be heavily involved in the transition process.

Wests Tigers Chair Barry O’Farrell thanked Egan for his tireless efforts and commitment over the past two-and-a-half years.

“On behalf of the Board, I would like to recognise Kelly Egan for his hard work and commitment to Wests Tigers,” O’Farrell said.

“Since his arrival, Kelly has shown a relentless desire for excellence and has provided tremendous leadership for our entire football department — from the NRL squad right down to our junior pathways programs.

“Kelly has overseen the development and growth of our overall football program as well as strengthening the ties to our junior clubs.

“He certainly leaves Wests Tigers in a much stronger and more competitive position than when he arrived, and we have no doubt that he will be greatly missed by the Board, staff and everyone at Wests Tigers.”

Egan added his gratitude for the opportunity at Wests Tigers, and said he was thankful for the support shown to him throughout his time at the club.

“Wests Tigers is a great brand with a resilient and emotive fan and membership base,” Egan said. “I have really enjoyed the challenge and opportunity provided to me by the club.

“There is never an easy time to leave a club and a job you feel passionately about and it has been a dream to be involved in sport for such a long period of time.

“It’s been an emotional decision, but one that is done to put my family first and I’m looking forward to being able to spend more time with them again.

“Key leadership is a vital part of an NRL organisation and I have been privileged to witness that during my time with the club in Head Coach Michael Maguire, Chair Barry O’Farrell, former Chair Marina Go and CEO Justin Pascoe,” he said. “As a result, I have full confidence in the strong future of Wests Tigers — both on and off the field.

“I’m excited to see where the club will continue to progress in the 2019 season and beyond and will continue to do my absolute best to ensure success for all at Wests Tigers.”

With Egan’s support, Wests Tigers will now begin a comprehensive process to appoint the club’s new General Manager – Football in the coming weeks.
