Magpies looking for back-to-back wins in Bankwest opener

Western Suburbs Magpies will be looking to make it back-to-back wins this Easter Long Weekend when they take on the Wentworthville Magpies in Round 6 of the Canterbury Cup.

After a dominant 32-12 win over the Panthers last week, Western Suburbs find themselves in 4th place going into Round 6 and will be looking to soar even higher when they take on the 7th-placed Wentworthville in this Easter Monday clash.

The game will certainly be one for the history books as it will be played at the new Bankwest Stadium. When Wests take on Wentworthville on Monday it will not only be the first rugby league match played there but the first ever sporting match.

Wests will be going into this game high on confidence following their 20-point win over Penrith — a much-needed result after conceding 50 points to Mounties the week before. The Magpies have only claimed victory over their mascot rivals once in the last two years and will be hoping to improve that statistic when they face off on Easter Monday, the date of their most recent victory over Wentworthville.

Captain Kauri Aupouri will be hoping to carry his good form over into this weekend’s game after he proved crucial to Magpies’ collecting the win last week. The halfback got on the scoresheet twice against Penrith and he will be looking to do the same on Monday, while the likes of David Nofoaluma, Elijah Taylor, Paul Momirovski and Chris McQueen could again come in to calculations after being named as reserves in the extended NRL squad by Head Coach Michael Maguire.

On the other side of the field, Wentworthville will be looking to get back to winning ways following last week’s defeat to league leaders Mounties. Wentworthville held the lead of 10-6 at half time but ultimately crumbled in the second half when Mounties turned it up a notch and eventually saw out the win.

Wentworthville have had a huge shake up in preparation for this weekend’s game with a total of six changes for the game against Western Suburbs.

Oregon Kaufusi and Ray Stone have both been promoted to the Eels' first-grade squad, while Greg Leleisiuao could also come in to first-grade calculations as Blake Ferguson battles nose and rib injuries picked up in last week's loss to Canberra.

Kick off for the match is at 1:30pm AEST from Bankwest Stadium.
