Wests Tigers have today advised that following a meeting of the Wests Tigers Board, there will be a number of new changes occurring at the club.
Following the NRL’s sanctions against the club, Wests Tigers have announced that Wests Ashfield Leagues Club CEO Simon Cook will lead the club as caretaker CEO until the return of Justin Pascoe as Wests Tigers CEO on June 19, 2019.
As a result, Cook has resigned from the Wests Tigers board, having been a director since September 2014.
The Wests Tigers Board would like to publicly thank Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary Mark Sawicki for leading the club as acting-CEO throughout the recent period of preliminary NRL sanctions. Sawicki, along with the club’s senior management team including Chief Operating Officer Ryan Webb and General Manager – Football Kelly Egan, forged ahead with several strategic plans in Justin’s absence, and maintained stability at Wests Tigers throughout this time.
Caretaker Wests Tigers CEO Simon Cook said he was looking forward to his new interim role at Wests Tigers to help with the club’s stability over the coming months.
“I have really enjoyed my time as part of the Board of Wests Tigers,” said Cook.
“I now look forward to working with our partners over this interim period to further assist with the stability of the club until Justin’s return.”
Wests Tigers have also confirmed that Marina Go will be departing from her role as club Chair in the near future.
Go had previously informed the Wests Tigers Board of her intention to step down following the end of maximum four-year tenure on the board. Go’s tenure was extended in order to assist in leading the club and Wests Tigers Board through the recent salary cap process with the NRL, which was resolved late last week.
In her time as Chair of the Board, Go has led the club through a period of substantial economic improvement and led major governance improvements that have provided Wests Tigers with a period of extremely strong off-field stability.
“I look forward to the start of the 2019 NRL season and will have the opportunity to speak with our sponsors and Members before my formal departure from the club,” said Go.
“I have no doubt that with a passionate board, a talented and dedicated executive team, a Premiership-winning coach and excellent staff as well as a quality playing roster, Wests Tigers remain in good hands who will ensure the success of this club in to the future.”
Caretaker Wests Tigers CEO Simon Cook thanked Go for her tireless efforts as part of the Wests Tigers Board, and for her leadership as Chair during her tenure.
“Marina has done a tremendous job over the past four-and-a-half years and she will be greatly missed by everyone within the Wests Tigers organisation,” said Cook.
The Wests Tigers Board will now begin the search for a replacement independent director from Monday.
Marina Go will remain as Chair of the Board until a new independent director is found, following which the board will then determine a new Chair for the next cycle.
