Wests Tigers have today confirmed that Robbie Farah has informed the Club of his decision to relinquish the Captaincy ahead of the 2016 season.
Farah has led Wests Tigers admirably during his time as Club Captain, taking on the role during the 2009 season.
Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe thanked Farah for all that he had done while captaining the Club.
“Robbie has been an exceptional Captain for Wests Tigers over the years and we thank him for the role he has played in leading this Club,“ said Pascoe.
“We understand the decision to relinquish the Captaincy was an incredibly difficult one for Robbie to make, but one that he has made with the best interests of this Club at heart.
“It’s now time for the next generation of leaders to stand up and steer this Club into the future,” he said.
Wests Tigers Head Coach Jason Taylor echoed Pascoe’s sentiments.
“During his time as Captain, Robbie has never taken a backward step and has always shown great passion in leading the team,” said Taylor.
“This decision would not have been an easy one for Robbie to make, but in doing so he’s allowing a new group of leaders to stand up.”
Farah said that leading the Wests Tigers had meant a lot to him.
“It is with some regret that I have relinquished my Captaincy of Wests Tigers,” said Farah. “I believe that it is not only in the best interests of the Club, but also in mine.
“It is a privileged position that I have always held in high regard but I now feel that a younger candidate should be handed the opportunity,” he said.
Wests Tigers started pre-season training on Monday.
