Round One of the 2015 NRL season kicked off in spectacular fashion for Wests Tigers, with a Pat Richards field goal as the full-time siren sounded giving the team a thrilling 19-18 victory in front of a strong crowd at Cbus Super Stadium.

Richards was the star of the night, crossing for two tries earlier in the match, with Wests Tigers forced to come from behind and steal a dramatic win.

Earlier, Brett Kimmorley’s first game in charge of the Club’s NYC side didn’t get off to the start that he would have desired — going down 34-16 to the Gold Coast Titans.

Paul Fletcher’s NSW Cup side had a better result, however, coming from behind to defeat the Newtown Jets 24-14 at Henson Park on Saturday afternoon.

NRL Round 1

South Sydney Rabbitohs got their title defence underway with a convincing 36-6 demolition of the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night.

The Parramatta Eels too started the year in fine fashion — taking down the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 42-12 in front of a strong crowd at Pirtek Stadium.

The Newcastle Knights came-from-behind to defeat the Warriors 24-14 at Hunter Stadium, while the Canberra Raiders and Sydney Roosters both pulled off upsets away from home against the Cronulla Sharks and North Queensland Cowboys respectively.

Monday Night Football will close out Round 1, with the St. George-Illawarra Dragons hosting the Melbourne Storm at WIN Jubilee Oval.

Wests Tigers 19 def. Gold Coast Titans 18

Pat Richards scored two tries, kicked two goals and slotted a memorable 80th minute field goal to give Wests Tigers a 19-18 win over the Titans. Two tries to Titans winger James Roberts kept the hosts in the match all night, while Wests Tigers fullback James Tedesco made a successful return from a knee injury suffered in Round 16 last year, scoring a second-half try.
