Wests Tigers have today granted forward Jack Buchanan an immediate release to take up an opportunity with the Widnes Vikings.

Buchanan has played 41 NRL games for the Club since making his first grade debut in Round 1 of the 2013 season.

The Culburra junior has played two NRL matches earlier this season; however, the prop forward has been sidelined recently with a foot injury.

Buchanan said he was looking forward to the next chapter of his career with the Super League side.

“I’ve really enjoyed my four years with Wests Tigers and I want to thank the Club for giving me the opportunity to play first grade,” Buchanan said.

“To have played alongside some of the great players in this team has been unreal.

“I’ve made life-long friends at the Club and that is something that I’m really grateful for.

“I’d really like to thank the Wests Tigers Members and fans who have stuck with the team through the tough times and I’ll definitely be cheering on the boys from over in England.

“I’m looking forward to the next part of my career with Widnes and it’s a great opportunity for me to travel overseas while playing first grade football,” he said.

Wests Tigers Head Coach Jason Taylor thanked Buchanan for his efforts and commitment while playing for the Club.

“On behalf of the Club I would like to wish Jack well in the next chapter of his career at Widnes,” Taylor said. “Jack has been a valuable member of the squad over the past few seasons at Wests Tigers.

“The opportunity to play first grade with Widnes on a regular basis is a great opportunity for Jack and I wish him all the best with his career in Super League,” he said.
